Date of Next Course: Tuesday 10 March 2009

Location: Oasis Room, St James' Church, Clitheroe, Lancashire

Course Tutor: Julia Dyer MCSP BSc (Hons), Independent Children's Physiotherapist, Advanced Sensory Integration Practitioner

Introduction:

Many children in primary school have not developed the basic motor skills that lay the foundation for academic learning to take place.  Research has shown that by developing children's foundational motor skills, through motor programmes in schools, progress is seen in academic and learning skills such as handwriting, reading, hand-eye coordination, concentration and attention.

Aims:

The aim of this course is enable primary school staff to identify children with motor learning difficulties and equip them to set up appropriate individual or group  motor programmes in school. The course also gives staff the necessary tools to screen children's motor skills so enabling potential problems to be detected and through the use of programmes remediated early in the child's school life.

Audience:

This course is suitable for SENCOs, class teachers and staff supporting children with motor learning difficulties in primary schools.
The course is also suitable for those who are working in Foundation Stage and want to consider screening children's motor skills on entry to school in order to identify and remediate problems much earlier on in the child's school life.
