Therapy

We believe in therapy being fun and child-centred, a place where your child can grow in self-confidence and gain a sense of pride and achievement. We discover your child’s/your goals during the assessment process and then tailor therapy to enable these goals to be met in the best way. Your child will have the opportunity to work towards gaining certificates and badges during therapy to acknowledge their effort and achievement and to help build their self-esteem.

We will recommend treatment options and also discuss the timescale of treatment. We offer various forms of physiotherapy depending on the needs of your child including sensory integration therapy, neuro-developmental therapy (Bobath), sensory motor approaches, cognitive motor approaches and functional approaches (More details for therapy for specific conditions can be found in your child’s difficulties).

The options will be discussed following assessment. You may be happy to be given advice on activities to do at home or given a programme of exercises, and then monthly or 6 weekly appointments to monitor progress.

It may be that your child is seen for blocks of treatment in the school holidays or attends groups in the holidays.

Your child may be seen for weekly or fortnightly appointments. Appointments tend to be made at the same time to make it easier to fit them into family life.

Blocks of intensive treatment are effective in treating children with coordination problems and they may be seen twice a week for 4 – 6 weeks and then given a home programme to complete at home for a month.
